Project 6

Work, Volunteering & Enterprise (WaVE)

We at Project 6 feel that it was no longer good enough for us to always call on others to give our service users volunteering and employment opportunities. It was time for us to practice what we preach so we secured funding for a 3 year WaVE volunteer project (Work and Voluntary Enterprise) in order to assist our project and the community.

Many of our service users when finished treatment are ready to get back to training, employment and work but find there are barriers in place. To increase ‘social capital’ for Project 6 service users, our partner’s service users and the local Keighley community and local economy we can now provide a pathway into volunteering, training, education and employment opportunities.

We will use volunteering in a positive way to:

  • Help the local community by offering volunteering and work experience opportunities,
  • Increase understanding of the wider social issues around substance misuse,
  • Break down the barriers and stigma attached to those who use substances
  • Make it easier for the community to seek support if they, their families or carers need help or advice with substance misuse issues.
