My name is....
Jem and I’m a counsellor, alcohol worker and a person in recovery from alcohol misuse. I’ve always written poetry – my first little verse was written when I was 4 years old – but it’s only in the past 4-5 years that I’ve started to take it seriously. I joined a couple of poetry groups in my area and now perform at open mics 2-3 times a month. My proudest achievements have been performing at The Big Iftar in Batley – part of the More in Common initiative started in memory of the late Jo Cox MP – and being published in the collection Bards of Batley, printed to commemorate Batley’s 150th year as a borough. I hope you enjoy listening to my words, which are mostly based around the theme of my recovery.
