Family Support Service

Our Family Worker is here to support you and your family when you need us. We can offer one to one and group support for parents, one to one and group support for children as well as working with parents and children together.

Work with Parents/Carers
Our targeted work with parents and carers is designed to provide personalised and individual support as well as group work. The targeted interventions offered by Family Support have shown to contribute to improvements with at-risk families, by supporting them to understand and manage feelings in themselves as well as their children.

This supports parents/carers to become more positive and nurturing in their relationships with their children, be more aware of emotional wellbeing, build self-esteem, improve communication and develop effective strategies to encourage appropriate behaviours in their children.

We also run parenting courses. These courses are designed to help support you to improve parenting skills and learn about things like:

  • Parent and child interaction
  • Learning about behaviour patterns
  • The importance of communication
  • How to teach responsibility

Work with Children and Young People of Substance Using Parents
Our Family Support Worker works with individuals and groups of children and young people who are affected by their parent’s use of substances. The interventions focus on building resilience for the children and young people and include promoting good school attendance, participating in organised out of school activities, identifying stable adult figures and positive social networks. Our aim is to increase self-efficacy in the children and young people and reduce the risk of them going on to using substances.
