Purpose of the Job:

The Specialist Recovery and Housing Worker will provide person-centerd support to individuals experiencing homelessness alongside alcohol and/or other drug use, helping them to overcome barriers to securing and sustaining safe, stable accommodation. The role will also play a key part in supporting, mentoring and developing trainees and volunteers within the service. The postholder will achieve this by:

• Delivering support in a range of settings, including drop-in sessions, one-to-one appointments and group activities, tailoring support to each individual’s needs.
• Empowering people to identify, work towards and achieve their own goals, supporting them to improve their health and wellbeing, build resilience, and develop the confidence and practical skills needed to live independently and sustain positive change.
• Developing and delivering personalised recovery and housing plans in partnership with individuals, ensuring support reflects their needs, priorities and aspirations.
• Working collaboratively with colleagues, partner agencies and the wider community to help people access the services, resources and opportunities they need.
• Supporting people to secure and sustain stable accommodation, strengthen their recovery and achieve lasting improvements in their lives.
• Mentor the Trainee Recovery and Housing Worker within their role, provide guidance and support as well as supervision.
• Support volunteers within the project and co-ordinate volunteers based on the demand and need of the service.

Main Duties

• Collaborate with the wider Homelessness Project team and other Project 6 colleagues to create and deliver personalised support plans that meet each individual’s needs.
• Provide intensive, person-centred support for approximately 12-18 months, enabling people to move away from homelessness and towards independent living.
• Complete housing assessments and support individuals with accommodation applications.
• Deliver practical harm reduction advice and interventions that promote safety and wellbeing.
• Support individuals to attend appointments with housing, health, treatment and welfare services, encouraging engagement and continuity of care.
• Reconnect people with appropriate community, health and recovery services to address wider support needs.
• Continue providing support after accommodation has been secured, helping individuals to sustain their tenancy and prevent repeat homelessness.
• Offer practical guidance on budgeting, financial management and accessing grants for essential household items, including furniture and white goods.
• Support individuals to establish healthy daily routines, develop independent living skills and rebuild positive social connections.
• Contribute to creating a welcoming, recovery-focused day service environment that promotes engagement, wellbeing and positive outcomes for people experiencing homelessness.
• Maintain accurate records, monitor progress against support plans and work in line with organisational policies and safeguarding procedures.
• Keep accurate and confidential records.
• Produce relevant documents and reports in support of the role.
• Attend and contribute to meetings with other staff and partners.
• Offer support and supervision and development of the Trainee role within the team.
• Contribute to contract reports by working with the Team Leader to collate qualitative and quantitative data.

• To work with people who use alcohol and/or other substances including street drinkers, removing barriers to their engagement.
• To focus on a specific women’s only offer to support and promote a service that meets the needs of women accessing.
• Provide an open access, safe place where regular on-going interventions, including harm reduction strategies are in place, to support individuals who are severely dependent upon alcohol or other substances.
• Support volunteers in decisions related to boundaries and confidentiality.
