Young Person’s Engagement Worker (Reducing Gambling Harms, Prevention Team)

Purpose of the Job

  •  Supporting young people to recognise early signs of gambling-related harm and understand where and how to seek support 
  • Design and deliver preventative workshops, drop-in sessions and outreach activities in settings young people already access, including local colleges and Sheffield’s two universities,  
  • To provide one-to-one support and guidance to young people at risk of, or affected by, gambling related harm 
  • To provide support in the community for individuals and families with the aim of helping them to make positive lifestyle changes  
  • To support and signpost individuals and families to engage with appropriate specialist services 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To review and assess the needs of young people with a gambling problem within a variety of settings 
  • To support the young people who use our services to improve general health including their physical, mental, emotional, and social wellbeing 
  • To support the people who use our services to improve their social situation, including assistance with accessing community services and budgeting 
  • To work with people to remove any structural and social barriers to accessing treatment services  
  • To support individuals and families to access appropriate treatment and recovery services  
  • Keep accurate and confidential records 
  • Produce relevant documents and reports in support of the role 
  • Attend and contribute to meetings with other staff and partners.

This post is focused on leading a team that is: 

  • Running support and recovery groups for the young people who use our services 
  • ​​Seeing individuals one to one in our offices or in the community or at their own home 
  • Work with young people to identify and respond to their individual needs, with a strong focus on prevention, awareness and early identification of harm among students and young adults.  
  • Work closely with student services, wellbeing teams and wider partners to strengthen referral pathways into prevention and early intervention support, reducing the escalation of harm at a critical life stage. 
  • Make timely and appropriate referrals to internal and external services, ensuring sustained engagement, effective multi-agency collaboration, and the development and maintenance of strong joint-working relationships. 
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of therapeutic group work activities, providing tailored support to individuals as required. 
  • Actively encourage and enable the meaningful involvement of young people in service planning, design, delivery and evaluation. 
  • Provide advice, guidance and consultancy to external agencies supporting young people who experience gambling related harms. 
  • Promote the service through presentations, talks and events to a range of audiences, representing the service positively and professionally as required.
