 Merger title 07

We are delighted to announce that the long established Doncaster based alcohol charity, Doncaster Alcohol Services (DAS), will be joining with Project 6 on 1st July 2020. The merger means that DAS will be part of Project 6 and operate as ‘Project 6 Doncaster – formerly known as Doncaster Alcohol Services’.

As a combined organisation along with our Sheffield services, we will employ over 55 staff across West and South Yorkshire who are all committed to our core purpose of providing opportunities and choices for individuals, families and communities affected by substance misuse and complex needs, to create meaningful and sustainable change in their well-being.

DAS has worked collaboratively with the Sheffield arm of our charity (formally known as Sheffield Alcohol Support Services) for many years. In recent years both organisations have developed approaches of delivering local community based support for people in recovery from alcohol problems and going forward there will now be thriving recovery projects in Keighley (Progress), Sheffield (ARC) and Doncaster (Sober Social).

Vicki Beere, Chief Executive of Project 6, said today

“Our shared values, culture and approaches to delivering quality services that meet the needs of our local communities, will provide us with a fantastic opportunity to meet the strategic challenges currently facing small charities. The merger will ensure the charities remain sustainable during this time of reduced funding, increased competition and austerity. It will provide us with opportunities for learning and growth and the development of innovative and effective services for our local communities.  Our impact on our service users and their communities will be our prime measure of success”.

Callum Dixon, DAS CEO says

“DAS has a long history of delivering services in Doncaster and I’m proud that we put service users at the heart of every decision, ensuring that all organisational developments offer increased opportunities and strengthened outcomes for those who access our services. Joining Project 6 offers new opportunities to innovate our service design and delivery for the benefit of everyone accessing our support in Doncaster and also ensures sustainability going forward. This means we can continue to develop and expand local services that meet the changing needs of local people”.

Doncaster Alcohol Services have been delivering services in Doncaster for almost 40 years and their vision is that every individual in Doncaster has the awareness, skills and confidence to make effective choices about their usage of alcohol and other drugs.

In 2018 a new CEO came into post, with a new vision and new direction for the organisation which now offers three strands of service delivery: prevent, treat and recover

-Prevention is all the work we do on raising awareness, supporting young people and reducing social isolation

-Treatment is the work we do supporting people to engage with mainstream treatment, providing counselling and holistic therapies through The Healing Light

-Recover is the work we do with families, the community and our work in Sober Social
