How we can help
We work with mothers who have had one or more children recently accommodated by the local authority (inc. Special Guardianship Orders). The service aims to support women to take time out from parenting in order to address their loss, build resilience, increase wellbeing, and develop new skills for future living.
The service works collaboratively with women to help them make sustainable changes and address the multiple and complex risks in their lives, including domestic abuse, unmet mental health needs, substance use, parenting capacity, adverse childhood experiences and unsafe housing conditions.
We aim to work with the women for approximately 9 months, and alongside our support, Fresh Start will also help the women to access:
- Loss and grief support – inc. childhood experience
- Health services – sexual health inc. accessing contraception, GP, dental, etc.
- Drug and alcohol services
- Education and employment services
- Housing services
